My names Preach and I’m going to tell you the truth. I am a comedian. Been one all my life. I just didn’t know it until 2007. Life is funny like that. No matter how hard you run away from what you are it will follow you no matter what. I didn’t start to perform until 3 years ago. I did the whole “safe” path thing. Got my bachelors at North Carolina A&T. Got my MBA at University of Phoenix. The whole time I felt the gnaw of my “real” self the whole time in the pit of my soul.

Top 5 DO’s…
1. In order to stay completely focused I have to make some serious SACRIFICES. I moved to a new city for my job where I don’t know a lot of people… I get lonely sometimes, but this is all a part of my plan to succeed. If I lived near all my friends, I’d be distracted! I also have a 3.5 lb Yorkie that for 6 years had never left my side, but because my job requires me to travel so much, she spends a lot of time in Pittsburgh, PA with my parents.
2. I have no responsibilities besides my job. Which also means NO BOYFRIEND! Being in a relationship takes work and I don’t have time at this point in my life to commit my time & attention to anyone. That might sound selfish, but there came a point in my life where I just needed to focus on me. I’m single, independent, and rely on myself. That in itself is empowering and keeps me driven.
3. I STAY POSITIVE. My job requires 120% from me and at times I can go into complete overload. I look at stress as a positive force in my life that gives me physical and mental strength to keep pushing toward my goals. That makes the feeling of accomplishment much greater once I’m able to relax.
4. I believe that in order to follow your dreams you have to really know what it is that you want! I’ve always had a PASSION for entertaining. As Confucius said, “Find a job you enjoy, and you’ll never work a day in your life”. There is a lot of truth to that! Even dream jobs can be hard work, but it’s much easier when you’re doing something you love!
5. At a very young age, I was taking dancing, singing and acting classes. In high school, I left school early to go to my theater classes downtown and didn’t get home until 10pm at night. It’s so important in any field to get the appropriate TRAINING necessary to succeed. I’ve paid my dues (and still am) to get to where I ultimately want to be!
Top 5 DON’Ts-
1. As a TV Host and Actress, I speak my feelings, ideas, and thoughts. My personality and true self is revealed to strangers. This can make me pretty vulnerable to harsh CRITICISM AND HATERS. It’s really important to not take anything to heart. Obviously, that’s easier said than done but I try to take criticism constructively and make haters my motivators! I’m grindin’ too hard now to let the “noise” at the bottom distract me! (On that note, I never want to be famous…I just want to be successful!)
2. DON’T PROCRASTINATE. I used to procrastinate getting a job application out, going to the gym, reading a script, etc. I think I also just had a lot of distractions around me. Nowadays though, everything I do is productive. (for the most part!) There isn’t time to wait around!
3. I DEVOTE 90% TO MY WORK , 10% TO MY PERONAL LIFE. I lived in LA for 9 years before moving to North Carolina and San Diego. LA is my playground and it was distracting for me. I got a job offer a couple months ago back in LA but I had to turn it down. If I want to remain completely focused, I need to be separated away from my comfort zone. It’s a sacrifice, but it’s necessary for now. When I need to recharge my battery or get some hugs, I go to LA for the weekend then get back focused Sunday night for the week.
4. I don’t have anyone NEGATIVE in my life. Gossip, debates, venting, etc. is enough to make anyone lose concentration and I have no interest (or energy) for any of that! I navigate around the melodrama and just focus on the bigger picture! I made the choice to not entertain people or circumstances that aren’t in harmony with what I want to achieve!
5. I’m my own WORST CRITIC. I’m very detail-oriented and a perfectionist so when I do something wrong I just try again and keep pushing. I’ve been passed up on a lot of jobs and I’ve made my share of mistakes but I only use them to learn from. I won’t let myself get discouraged from chasing my dreams!!!

After having her first attack in December of 2006, Emily Munoz was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. After waking up one morning with the left side of her face numb, she assumed that she ate something the night before and caught an allergic reaction. Letting the day go by and the next morning she woke up with the same numbness and a huge headache, all on the left side of her face and head. Worried of course, she called her mom to find out what could it be.
“I called all of my close friends and them being as worried as I was they demanded that I go to the hospital, so I did. After having an MRI done, I was told it looked like I had MS, Multiple Sclerosis. I had no idea what exactly that meant because I was one of the millions who knew nothing about MS unfortunately. I spent 5 days hospitalized, I was given some steroids to help the numbness go away. On Christmas Eve I was sent home and was able to spend Christmas with my family.”

What happens when two dreamers get together to build an online site? Evve Online - a dream that not only gets bigger, but has twice the push to make it happen. You may remember Irina from a previous post we did on her futuring her t shirt line “Sugah” now she’s back and not alone. Say hello to Caroline and see what these two partners are up too, what tips and advice they have to share to help us move our dreams along.
How did you and Caroline meet?
Caroline: We met on our first day at the Fashion Academy, ten years ago. I walked into the classroom, expecting fashionista’s and stylish barbiedolls, but was shocked to find out the classroom was filled with skaters and gothics; not what I expected! The only ‘normal looking’ girl (wearing leopard skin pants), was Irina, who was sitting at a desk with a free seat next to her, so I decided I should sit next to her ha ha.
Irina: yeah, I would have to go with her story. Since it was the first day of school we had like a little lunch with the new class. She sat next to me and asked me to pass the milk..next thing I know we’ve passed ten years and she still sitting next to me! She still makes fun of my leopard pants by the way.

1. What was your inspiration to become a writer/author?
My inspirational for becoming a writer/author came when I was in my sophomore year in college. I’m not a big talker. All throughout my school years I was seen as the quiet, anti-social girl. That sigma followed me to college. So when I had to write a term paper on my life experience, then present it to the class, a student came up to me afterwards and said that it was such a waste that I had so much to say but yet I keep it bottle up. He encouraged me to begin to share my thoughts with the world. Shorty after, I began to write poetry, then gospel songs, now it’s books. I feel that he spoke into my life and I ran with it.

I knew what I wanted to do was to come to LA/Hollywood to follow my dreams and act. It’s something I was certain of doing since the early years of life, but actually believing it was something I could do was a different story. I later discovered that my thoughts have great power….because in only about 6months of me seriously knowing and believing LA was the place I needed to be, it happened for me. I spoke it into existence. I knew everyday that making the move was what I needed to do to accomplish and achieve what I wanted to do in life, and I kept telling myself that in order to be great, you have to make great sacrifices. The universe kept bringing so many great people into my life who were preparing me for my journey w/o me even realizing it until after the fact. The signs are always there. It’s just up to us to see them.
After seeing the signs – finally realizing the journey was/is about to unfold right in front of me – AND accepting it, I was landing at LAX with a good portion of my belongings. It didn’t start out easy, and it still isn’t easy. Understand that I’m a born and raised Queens New Yorker.its in my blood – not that this limits me or that I haven’t traveled and experienced being outside of NYC – but I was coming to live 3000 miles away from all I knew as a home, all my family all my friends. It was tough initially and it still is 6months into living in LA, but there’s a bigger picture, a bigger goal for which I’m aiming.

Alec Carrion has struggled with weight issues his entire life. This August will mark 2 years since he started taking control of his life and health. Since August of 2008 up to now I have lost a total of 106lbs. When he embarked on this Journey 2 years ago he weighed 302, he currently weighs 196 and the challenge continues as he tries to reach 160lbs.
“Its all about holding fast to that dream and knowing you can reach it and while I haven’t reached mine just yet, I still have come along way”.
What was your turning point that made you decided to take a healthier approach to life?
The turning point came for me at my annual physical/check up with my doctor a little over 2 years ago. My Doctor had been informing me several times that I was living a very unhealthy lifestyle weighing 302 lbs, which would eventually lead to many different sicknesses such as heart problems, diabetes and high blood pressure. That’s something that would freak any 16 year old out. When my doctor informed me of this I knew immediately that I had to take control and make a change for the better of my health. For so long losing weight was a dream and a goal of mine but nothing ever really motivated me the way I was motivated when I realized the danger my health was in after that doctors visit. That doctors visit changed my life, and 2 years later I am happy to say that I now weigh 196lbs at the age of 19. But the goal continues…as my my doctor is amazed at my transformation, but stresses that in order for me to be completely healthy 160-170lbs would be the ideal weight for me. So my goal, patience and determination continues as I strive to reach that goal of 160-170lbs. But I have come so far as I’ve lost to date 106lbs.
