Share with us what was going on in your life prior to thinking about entering Miss Black Atlanta USA? I had actually taken a break since aging out of the Miss USA system after competing in the Miss Ohio USA pageant in 2008. I took time to finish law school, I traveled, spent almost a year in New York working towards building my sports and entertainment firm, and then moved back to Georgia and have really just started settling into the practice of law doing medical malpractice and personal injury. How did you come about entering Miss Black Atalanta USA? I just couldn’t give up my passion for pageants. Miss Ohio USA was my first and it was such a great experience that I knew I wanted to compete again. I had a friend from college who was Miss Black North Carolina USA and so I looked into the Miss Black USA system and decided to enter the Miss Black Georgia USA pageant. What was the 1st thing you did to prepare yourself for the journey ahead? The 1st thing I did was internalize what it was that I wanted from this experience so that I could really plan and...

Prayer & giving thanks to God- HE is the one who gives me the chance to wake up daily & try this thing called life again & the strength to keep pushing through! 2. I check out the casting websites & submit myself for the roles I’m right for. I’m an actress on the move so I’m constantly trying to work & add to my resume. Sometimes I submit for indie films, webisodes & student films that have great ideas. You never know what you can get your big break from, just immerse yourself in the culture of whatever it is you want to do & get copies of your work. 3. I create a To Do List every Sunday or Monday morning. It helps me to organize my thoughts & actions. It also helps me to realize what I have accomplished before. Looking at the progress of your dreams is always a good feeling!! 4. I try to go see a movie, attend a play or read one. I got this tip from a respected mentor of mine, actor Gbenga Akinnagbe!! Its good to watch others work & learn from their performances & choices they made for their characters....

Chicago – South Side & South Suburbs. Poet, Writer, Actor, Model, Voice-Over Talent, Photographer, Creative Marketing Consultant, Teacher, Motivational Speaker, My Mama’s Baby… 2. Advice for handling obstacles – My 1st rule of thumb when it comes to obstacles is “knowing” that all of them are unavoidable. No matter what you do in life, obstacles are bound to occur at some point or another. It’s like any fall or accident that happens; When you know it’s coming you have time to brace yourself, so the impact isn’t as bad. When you know you have to deal with obstacles it’s best to deal with them and get past them, over them, around them however you need to, but do your best to maintain your good energy. You have to do your best at not allowing these “obstacles” to drain you and affect your next moves. Life is all about balance. Accept the good with the bad, the highs with the lows. 3. Who inspires you? – My Mother, aka Lady P, has been my inspiration since I can remember. She is a very intelligent, strong, South-Side Black Woman, who raised three...

What inspired you to start acting and doing voice overs? Acting is all I have ever wanted to do! And I became a voice actress completely by accident! I was a film and commercial actress and my agent sent me to an audition one day. When I got there I realized it was a VOICE audition. I had never done one but I jumped right in and had fun with it. Must have worked because I booked the gig. The rest is, as they say, history. And I thank my lucky stars every day for the chance to have a career that I love. Was it something that you dreamed about or do you ever wish you could be doing something else for a living? NEVER! I can hardly believe I do what I love and get paid for it. Actually, never mind- I do believe it! Being in a business that deals out more no’s than yes’s, how do motivate yourself to continue? I have always had an incredible thick skin- likely because I was a redhead with a strange name. But it is a matter of knowing that the word ‘no’ never means no. It means “Not this...

1. Name Where are you from? Occupation Deemehlow. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and Queens. Currently residing in Paris. Occupation? Music. From Dj to working within the music industry. It’s not only my passion but my lively hood. 2. Advice for handling obstacles. Knowing that statistically speaking, more then likely someone has done it before me. And that they might not have been stronger or smarter then me at doing it but they did because they faced it head on. And just knowing that it usually gives me the mental or physical ability to get passed that obstacle. Sort of an arrogant way to see things but it works. 3. Who inspires you? Those who have struggled and still made it to follow their dreams. For example off the top of my head I think Dave Chappelle. I remember an interview where he said he started doing comedy clubs around the age of 16-17 and he didn’t really get his big break till he was about 30. All I can think of the mental strength it requires to believe in yourself and your dreams and work through so many obstacles for 14 years?! So when he turned down...

Tips

Three tips to keep pushing. 1. Remove the word CAN’T from your vocabulary. It in itself is an obstacle. You CAN. 2. Read, feed your mind, do your research/homework on things you may be interested in 3. Surround yourself with positive, like-minded, honest individuals who want to see you win. Three reasons why you shouldn’t give up. 1. Giving up almost always leads to regret. Don’t wait until years down the line to ask “What if…?” when you’re in position to follow your dream(s) NOW. 2. Anything worth having is worth working SMART for. 3. ”There are no mistakes or failures, only lessons.” – Denis Waitley All of our life experiences and trials are designed for us for good reason. Learn from them, grow from them and be great. Where are you from? I’m from the west side of Harlem. -insert uptown anthem here- What are you passionate about? Life, more specifically, living. I feel like sometimes we invest so much energy into analyzing and wishing and hoping and waiting that we never really take the time out to just LIVE and experience the world. I’m also very passionate about the advancement of education in our low-income, underserved communities. I feel like our children need to be better...

Tell us about your Dream. My dream had always been to own a business. My first business was Kim’s Creations (1995), a handcrafted greeting card company I started as a result of not being able to find work after college. When I first started Angel Power Holdings (my second business 2008) a real estate company in Philadelphia, Pa, not in my wildest dreams I did not think it would become a Business Consultant company that helped people bring their passion into profit as it does today. All I wanted to do was real estate; however God had a better plan for APH. What inspired Angel Power Holdings and the PIP luncheon? The market changed a great deal, I went to one of the brokers in Philadelphia because I had deals I was working on and he said “Kim you need to rethink what you are doing becuase the game is changing.” God shortly spoke to me and told me to give ALL the money I had from real estate away. Yes, you heard me. I followed what God said and I am a better person and more fulfilled with APH now. The Passion into Profit Women’s Luncheon was the birth...
